Are you looking for an easier way to Boston’s Seaport? The ferry is coming! OK, it’s a trial, but at least it’s a start.
According to Banker and Tradesman, “the trial service – with ferries making the trip to Fan Pier in approximately 13 minutes – was originally projected to launch in fall 2017. Related Beal committed to pay $794,000 and a $500,000 grant from Massachusetts Department of Transportation will cover the rest of the dock project, [Rich McGuinness, deputy director for waterfront planning at the Boston Planning and Development Agency] said. The Massachusetts Convention Center Authority will oversee the trial service operation, which will be partially funded by corporate subsidies.”

What do you do with an old bank? Well, on Canal Street in North Station perhaps the best use would be an 80 room hotel. The current zoning in that area is 100 feet the existing single story building would demolished for new construction. What’s nearby? Boston Realty Advisors represent 90 Canal Street which is a 77,976 square foot building with 23,349 square feet available and across the street is new residential construction.
The Boston Business Journal offered an early report on the prospective boutique hotel near North Station:
“Boston’s Bulfinch Triangle, the West End neighborhood across Causeway Street from North Station, could be getting a new hotel…A Woburn-based developer is floating a plan for a boutique hotel with about 80 rooms that would replace the shuttered Bank of America building at 104 Canal St…Somnath Hospitality bought the former bank building in January for $3 million, according to public records. Under the proposal, the one-story, 3,417-square-foot building would be razed to make way for the hotel. Zoning in the neighborhood is limited to 100 feet.”

How do you get to work? Would you take public transportation if it stopped close to your home or office? Do you select office space based on its proximity to North or South Station?
A Boston Business Journal article reports that the station development is heavily influenced by New Balance’s proposed corporate world headquarters, “the station would be built next to New Balance’s proposed $235 million corporate world headquarters. As mitigation for the 1.4 million-square-foot mixed-use development, the sneaker giant has agreed to cover the cost to design, build and maintain the station. The plan received initial approval from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation’s Finance Committee on Tuesday. A vote of the full board will take place next week.”
