0 11 Massachusetts Companies Climb Fortune 500 List

Massachusetts is on the march up the fortune 500 list with all but 12 of the companies advancing from their standing last year. The list next year will add GE, which placed 11th on the current list.

From the Boston Business Journal:

Again leading the way in Massachusetts was Boston-based insurance giant Liberty Mutual, which rose to No. 73 on the list after finishing No. 78 last year. Springfield’s MassMutual jumped nearly 20 spots on the list to No. 76, and this year Framingham-based retailer TJX (NYSE: TJX) entered the Fortune 100, coming in at No. 89 after ranking No. 103 last year.

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts packs a powerful punch when you combined education and innovation. Our state is number one in both of those categories, which is why we are a hotbed of new and expanding business across the state.

According to Bloomberg, “the Boston area’s Route 128 eked out a victory over Silicon Valley, as Bloomberg’s ranking of the most innovative states in the U.S. illustrates how universities can juice local economies…The Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Behravesh’s alma mater, is one such school that’s provided a ripple effect for the local economy…MIT graduates have produced around 400 startup businesses over the past few decades.”

0 Boston Workforce Expected to Grow

Office building at 111 Huntington Ave in BostonThe Boston workforce is expected to continue to grow according to a survey of local CFO’s. 12 percent expect to be adding personnel in the 3rd quarter while the overall majority expressed confidence is their company’s growth.

An article on the Sacramento Bee, referencing a Boston Professional Employment Forecast from Robert Half, notes that “twelve percent of chief financial officers (CFOs) in the Boston area expect to add new professional-level positions in the third quarter..Fifteen percent of respondents will not be hiring, even to fill an open position, and 1 percent plan to reduce staff levels. Another 72 percent said they will hire for roles that open during the next three months.”
