There is some new artwork in the Financial District across from the Langham Hotel.  Ab Initio, created by Brad Howe.  His work from 2011 to present can be found, here.

The Boston Business Journal notes, “the stainless steel work, titled “Ab Initio,” a Latin phrase meaning “from the beginning,” was created by Brad Howe, a native of Brazil who lives in California. It features splashes of black and red color as well as holes that allow pedestrians to see through it…’The holes enable you to look through so they can engage the city from more than one standpoint instead of something that is solid and blocks the view'”

Who is your new landlord and should you care?  Equity Office, Blackstone, is in the process of selling off assets.  The newest to be announced are 100 High Street and 125 Summer Street.

From Banker & Tradesman:

“Private equity giant Blackstone Group will sell five Boston properties to Oxford Properties Group of Toronto for $2.1 billion, the Wall Street Journal reported.
The deal comprises 3.2 million square feet of office space, including 100 High St. and 125 Summer St. in Boston…Oxford will jointly purchase three other properties with J.P. Morgan Chase: 60 State St. and 225 Franklin St. in Boston and One Memorial Drive in Cambridge, the Journal reported.”

0 Tenants Migrate to Class A Buildings in Financial District

Real Estate in post office sq bostonTenants continue their migration from Class B buildings to Class A within the Financial District.  With vacancy rates just below 15 percent opportunities for tenants to trade up still exist.  Rents within the low rise Class A space will fall in the upper $30’s to low $40’s depending on the building.

Banker and Tradesman reports, “the move is the result of an expansion push by Managing Director Robert Brown, who came to the firm last year.”
